John Brough

The christening of John Brough is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index (via the LDS Extraction Program).

In 2007 the Brough Family Organization obtained a copy of the marriage certificate of John Brough and Hannah Darsey from England, which stated that they were married by Banns on 25 November 1839 in the parish church of Leek, Staffordshire; that John Brough was "of Full age", a Bachelor and Silk Twister of Spout Street, and that his father was William Brough, a Housekeeper; and that Hannah Darsey was "of Full age", a Spinster of Spout Street, and that her father was William Darsey, a Labourer.  The marriage was witnessed by Darius Nadin and Esther Ainsworth.  Also, the "Staffordshire Advertiser" newspaper (via Jim Brough to the Brough Family Organization in 2002), stated the following on 30 November 1839: "At Leek Monday 25th [November 1839] inst[ant] Mr. John Brough to Miss Hannah Darsy both of Leek".

John Brough is described as a "twister" in the birth certificate of his daughter, Selina.

In the 1851 Census, John Brough is listed as being about 40 years old (born about 1811), born in Leek, Staffordshire, married and working as a "Twister", and residing with his wife, Hannah, and two of their children (Sarah and Joseph), on Sprout Street, Leek, Staffordshire.

In the 1861 Census, "John Brough" is listed as being 49 years old (born about 1812), born in Leek, Staffordshire, married and working as a "Silk Twister", and residing with his wife, Hannah (age 44), and their three children (Salena--age 19, Joseph--age 11, and Matthew--age 7), at: Jacobs Alley, Spout Street, Leek, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1881 Census, John Brough is listed as being about "68" years old (born about 1813) and a "Weaver of Silk" and Lodger" who was born and living in Leek.  John Brough could not be found in the 1891 Census.


Hannah Darsey

The christening of Hannah Darsey (Darcy/Darcey) is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index (via the LDS Extraction Program).

The burial of "Thomas Brough" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1471068, Item #6), which states that he was buried on 6 October 1844 in Leek, Staffordshire, England, that he was of "Spout Street", and that he died when he was "10 weeks" old (born about July 1844).


Sarah Brough

In the 1851 Census, Sarah Brough is listed as being about 5 years old (born about 1846), born in Leek, Staffordshire, married and residing with his parents, John and Hannah Brough, and one of her siblings (Joseph), on Sprout Street, Leek, Staffordshire.

The burial of "Sarah Brough" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1471068, Item #8), which states that she was buried on 19 January 1852 in Leek, Staffordshire, England, and that she was of "Spout Street" and that she died when she was "6" years old (born about 1846).


William Brough

    According to family sources, George Brough and Elizabeth Hudson Bacon were reportedly married aboard the emigrant ship "Ellen Maria" on 7 March 1852.  According to historical documents, the Ellen Maria left Liverpool, England on January 10, 1852, and arrived in New Orleans, USA, on 5 April 1852.  George Brough and Elizabeth (Hudson) Bacon are listed as passengers on the Ellen Maria.     The LDS Ordinance Index lists an "Extracted LDS Temple Marriage Sealing Record" for George Brough and Elizabeth Hudson on 10 May 1870.  According to the actual marriage sealing record (FHL Film # 1149515), George Brough and Elizabeth Hudson was sealed by Joseph F. Smith in the Endowment House (EHOUS) on 10 May 1870, and at the time of their marriage they declared that George Brough was born on 1 July 1823 in New Malton, Yorkshire, and Elizabeth Hudson (Bacon) was born on 29 Aug 1821 in Brimington, Derbyshire.  Also, the marriage sealing record contains information about George Brough's first wife (then deceased), Harriett Humble Mace, who was reportedly born on 23 September 1818 in Stockport, England.
