The 1823 marriage of "William Brough" and "Charlotte Brough" is listed in the parish register of St. Peter, Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, which states that they were married by Banns on 14 December 1823; that William Brough was a "Bachelor" and "Potter" of "this Parish"; and that Charlotte Brough was a "Spinster" of "this Parish".  The marriage was witnessed by Samuel Paulsen and James Austin.

In the 1841 Census, "William Brough" is listed as being 40 years old (born about 1797-1801), born in Staffordshire,  working as a "Potter", and residing with his apparent wife, Charlotte (age 40), and their two apparent daughters: Mary Brough (age 20) and Louisa Brough (age 15), in Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

The 1803 christening of "Charlotte Brough" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 873647, Item #1), which states that she was christened on 29 May 1803 in Trentham, Staffordshire, and that her mother was "Ann Brough".

The 1844 burial of "Charlotte Brough" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1471087, Item #12), which states that she was buried on 25 August 1844 at St. John's church in Longton, Staffordshire, England, and that she was of "Lane End" and died when she was "41" years old (born about 1803).

The christening of "Louisa Brough" is listed in the parish register of St. John's, Longton, Staffordshire (FHL Film # 1471086, Item #12), which states that she was christened on 23 January 1825 at St. John's, Longton, and that her parents were William Brough and Charlotte of Lane End, and that William Brough was a Potter.

The burial of "Louisa Brough" is listed in the parish register of St. John's, Longton, Staffordshire (FHL Film # 1471087, Item #12), which states that she was buried on 9 February 1842 at St. John's, Longton, Staffordshire, and that she died when she was "17" years old (born about 1825).

In the 1841 Census,"Louisa Brough" is listed as being 15 years old (born about 1817-1821), born in Staffordshire, working as a "Bonnit Maker" and residing with her apparent parents, William and Charlotte Brough, and an apparent older sister (Mary Brough--age 20), in Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

Research Note:  It has been suggested that "Louisa Brough" is the daughter of William Brough (BFO Fin# 6861) and Charlotte Bryon (BFO Rin# 6862), who were married on 14 December 1823 in Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.  However, this cannot be the case, as the specific children of this couple are listed in order of their birth and so numbered in the church records of the Methodist New Connexion, Longton Circuit (FHL Film # 825394, Item #1), and Louisa Brough is not listed as their daughter.


Robert Brough

The birth certificate of "Robert Brough" was obtained from the GRO in England by the Brough Family Organization in April 2023, and states that he was born on 19 January 1838 at "4 o'clock AM" at "Lane End" (also known as Longton), Stoke-upon-Trent district, Staffordshire, England, and that his father was "William Brough" a "Potter" and that his mother was "Charlotte Brough formerly Brough" of "Green Dock, Lane End".  Also, the birth of "Robert Brough" is listed in the online GRO Index, FreeBMD and Staffordshire BMD, which combined states that his birth was registered in January-March 1838 in Longton subdistrict, Stoke-upon-Trent district, Staffordshire, England, and that his mother's surname was "Brough".


Mary Ann Brough

In 2006, the RBFO obtained a copy of the birth certificate of Mary Ann Brough from England, which stated that she was born on 3 May 1840 in Lane End (Longton), Staffordshire, and that her father was William Brough, a "Potter" of "Green Dock, Lane End", and her mother was "Charlotte Brough formerly Brough".


John Varden Brough

In October 2006, the RBFO obtained the birth certificate for John Varden Brough, which stated that he was born on 14 May 1856 in High Street, Longton, Staffordshire, England, and that his parents were Charles Brough (a Potter) and Elizabeth Chapman.

The christening of "John Varden Brough" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1471085), which states that he was christened on 28 June 1868 in St. James, Longton, Staffordshire, and that his parents were "Charles Brough" and "Elizabeth" of "High Street", and that Charles Brough was a "Preper".

In the 1861 Census, John Varden Brough is listed as being about "6" years old and living with his grandparents, Thomas and Jane Chapman, in Normacott, Staffordshire.  John Varden Brough is also listed in the 1871 Census.

Research Note: The listing of a male "Francis Brough" in the 1891 Census was probably a mistake, as the online GRO Index, FreeBMD and Staffordshire BMD, do not list such an individual being born between 1879 and 1883 in Staffordshire to a mother whose surname was "Davis" or "Davies".
