Peter Brough

The christening of Peter Brough is listed in the IGI (via LDS Patron submission).  Also, Peter Brough is listed in New Family Search (PI # LHTD-7N8).

In the 1841 Census, Peter Brough is listed as being about 12 years old (born about 1829), born in Perthshire, Scotland, and residing with his parents, Peter and Mary Brough, and his three siblings, at: Westfields, Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland.

In the 1851 Census, Peter Brough is listed as being about 19 years old (born about 1832), born in Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland, working as an "Apprentice" and a "Miller", while residing in the home of David and Susan Henry, at: Milnacraig Mill, Glenisla, Angus, Scotland.

The 1860 marriage of Peter Brough and Christina Grant in Scotland is listed in the Register of Marriages of Alyth, Scotland (FHL Film # 292772), which states that they were married by Banns on 19 July 1860 in "according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland" at Alyth, Perth county, Scotland; and that Peter Brough was 27 years old (born about 1833) of Bardmony, a Bachelor and Farm Servant, and that his parents were Peter Brough, a Farmer (deceased) and Mary Williamson; and that Christian Grant was 30 years old (born about 1830) of Bardmony, a Spinster and Domestic Servant, and that her parents were Donald Grant, a Farm Servant, and Isabella Dow, a Domestic Servant.  The marriage was witnessed by William S. Henry and Jane Brough. (Also, the marriage of Peter Brough and Christina Grant is listed in the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, FHL Film # 6035516).

In the 1861 Census, Peter Brough is listed as being about 30 years old (born about 1831), born in Rothay [Rattray], Perthshire, Scotland, married and working as a "Ploughman", and residing with his wife, Christina, and their child, Mary, in Westmill, Glenisia, Angus, Scotland.

In 1863-1864, the family of Peter and Christina Brough are listed among the passengers who sailed aboard the ship, Rangoon, that left London, England, on November 26, 1863, and arrived at Napier, New Zealand on July 23, 1864.  The passenger list identified the family of Peter and Christina Brough as follows: Peter Brough, age 32 (born about 1831), Christina, age 32 (born about 1831), Mary, age 2 (born about 1861), and Jane, no age listed.  (Reference: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ourstuff/Rangoon1864.htm)

In 1880 and 1890, Peter Brough is listed in the 1880 and 1890 Electoral Rolls of New Zealand (via Ancestry.com), which lists him as a "Settler" then residing in Porangahau (North Island), New Zealand.

In 1897, Peter Brough died in New Zealand, as follows: In June 2011, the RBFO obtained a copy of the death certificate of Peter Brough from New Zealand, which stated that he died on 16 May 1897 in Porangahau, North Island, New Zealand at the age of "63 years" (born about 1834) from "Cerebral Hemorrhage [and] Paralylis"; that his father was Peter Brough, a Farmer, and that his mother was Mary Brough "formerly Williamson"; that he was buried on 18 May 1897 in Porangahau Cemetery; that he was born in Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland; that he had lived in New Zealand (prior to 1897) for 33 years (so he arrived in New Zealand in about 1864); that he was married in Alyth, Perthshire, Scotland at the age of 27 to a "Christina Grant"; and that at the time of his death (in 1897) he was the father of six living children: two sons, ages 27 (born about 1870) and 25 (born about 1872), and four daughters, ages 36 (born about 1861), 34 (born about 1863), 31 (born about 1866) and 22 (born about 1875).  The informant of Peter Brough's death was listed as "James MacKenzie", a "Son-in-law" of "Weber", North Island, New Zealand.

The christening of "Christian Grant" is listed in the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, FHL Film # 993435), which states that she was christened on 23 May 1830 in Glenisla, Angus, Scotland, as the daughter of Donald Grant and Isabella Dow.

Mary Brough

The christening of Mary Brough is listed in the IGI (via LDS Patron submission), which states that she was christened on 12 September 1860 in New Rattray, Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland, as the daughter of Peter Brough and "Christian Grant". (Note: The IGI also lists another christening for Mary Brough as 12 September 1868--which is an obvious mistake by the person who submitted it.)

In the 1861 Census, Mary Brough is listed as being about "6 months" old (born about October-November 1860--as the 1861 Census was taken on the night of April 7/8, 1861), born in Rothay [Rattray], Perthshire, and living with her parents, Peter and Christina Brough, in Westmill, Glenisia, Angus, Scotland.

In April 2011, the RBFO obtained a copy of the birth certificate of Peter Brough from New Zealand, which stated that he was born on 19 January 1868 in Porangahau, North Island, New Zealand, and that his father was Peter Brough, a "Settle [Settler]", and that his mother was Christina Brough "formerly Grant".


Isabella Brough

In June 2011, the RBFO obtained a copy of the birth certificate of Isabella Brough from New Zealand, which stated that she was born on 15 January 1875 in Porangahau, North Island, New Zealand, and that her father was Peter Brough, a "Settler", and that her mother was Christina Brough "formerly Grant".

Death listed in the on-line New Zealand BDM Historical Records (Feb 2, 2011), which states that Isabella Brough died in 1963 at 85 years old (born about 1878).


Alexander Leonard Brough
