Historical Information:  According to Wikipedia: HMS Inglefield was an I-class destroyer leader built for the Royal Navy that served during World War II. She was the navy's last purpose-built flotilla leader....  On 15 February 1944, she escorted an ammunition ship from Naples to Anzio [Italy]. She then took up a defensive position to protect the anchorage in Anzio. She was in this capacity for ten days before sustaining a direct hit by a Henschel Hs 293 glider bomb launched by a German aeroplane during a dusk attack and was sunk with the loss of 35 lives. 157 survivors were rescued and returned to the United Kingdom.

"J. J. Brough, Lance Corporal (VX30830), 2/22 (2nd Battalion, 22nd Regiment), Australian Imperial Force (Australian Army), was missing in action from February 1942.  2/22 garissoned Rabaul, New Britain, and following the Japanese invasion in January only 600 of the 1,400 Australian forces in the area could escape or be evacuated.  He either died in the battle or subsequently as a POW.  U.S. submarine Sturgeon torpedoed the Japanese Merchant ship Montivideao Maru off the Philippines on 1 July 1942, unaware that the ship carried, among others, 845 Australian soldiers captured at Rabaul just weeks before.  Probably Lance Corporal Brough was aboard this ship."

FamilySearch Tree (PID# LZT3-67Q) information about "Lance Corporal John Jeffrey Brough, Australian Imperial Force": In 2012 WWII-era documents released by the Japanese government to Australia included, inter alia, a roster of the 1,054 Australian POWs and internees of several nations captured on New Britain and New Ireland in February-March, 1942, and shipped in S.S. Montevideo Maru (7,267 tons) at Rabaul 22 June 1942 for shipment to Hainan Island, China. L/Cpl Brough is included. Enroute the unmarked ship was intercepted by patrolling U. S. submarine Sturgeon (SS 187) and torpedoed during the darkness of the early morning of 1 July at position 18 degrees 37' North 119 29' East, off the coast of Luzon in the Philippine Islands, and sank in eleven minutes. Only 18 members of the Japanese crew survived. The roster is available from the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, ACT, and the Imperial War Graves Commission, London.
