In the 1861 Census, Richard Brough is listed as being about 16 years old (born about 1845), born in Blurton, and working as a "Potter" while residing in Blurton.

In the 1871 Census, Richard Brough is listed as being about 29 years old (born about 1842), born in Longton, and working as a Potters Placer while residing in Spratslade, Trentham.

In the 1881 Census, Richard Brough is listed as being about 45 years old (born about 1836), born in Longton, and working as a "Potter's Presser" while residing in Normacot, Stone.

In the 1891 Census, Richard Brough is listed as being about 50 years old (born about 1841), born in Longton, and working as a "Potters Placer Earth" while residing in Caverswall.

In the 1901 Census, Richard Brough is listed as being about 60 years old (born about 1841), born in Longton, and working as a "Potters Glaze dipper" while residing on Uttoxeter Road in Longton. His second wife, Sarah (Smith)--along with two of her children (Albert and Ruth Smith)--are listed alongside him in the 1901 Census.

Research Note on Richard Brough's first marriage: The marriage of Richard Brough to his first wife, Eliza Bill Edwards, took place at St. Michael, Stone, Staffordshire, on 11 March 1867 (FHL Film # 1278887), and the marriage entry stated that Richard Brough was 24 years old (born about 1843), a Bachelor and Potter, residing in Mear Green, and that his father was Richard Brough, a Miner

Research Note: The marriage of Richard Brough to his second wife, Sarah Kinsey (Smith), took place at St. Mary and All Saints, Trentham, Staffordshire, on 20 July 1896 (FHL Film #1526192), and the marriage entry stated that Richard Brough was 57 years old (born about 1839), a Widower and Potter, residing in Caverswall, and that his father was Richard Brough, a Collier.


Sarah Kinsey

In the 1881 Census, Sarah (Smith) is listed as being about 32 years old (born about 1849) and born in Stone, Staffordshire.

In the 1891 Census, Sarah (Smith) is listed as being about 42 years old (born about 1849) and born in Normacot, Staffordshire.

In the 1901 Census, Sarah (Brough) is listed as being about 52 years old (born about 1849) and born in Longton. At the time of the 1901 Census, two of Sarah's children--Albert and Ruth Smith (by her first husband)--are living on Uttoxeter Road in Longton with she and her second husband, Richard Brough.

Research Note: The marriage of Richard Brough and Sarah Smith took place at St. Mary and All Saints, Trentham, on 20 July 1896 (FHL Film #1526192), and the marriage entry states that Sarah Smith was 48 years old (born about 1848), a Widow, residing in Trentham, and that her father was Thomas Kinsey, a Collier.

The 1851 Census for Trentham lists George Brough as being about 19 years old (born about 1832).

In the 1861 Census, George Brough is listed as being about 29 years old (born about 1832), born in Stone, Staffordshire, married and working as an "Ironstone Miner" while residing alone as a "Lodger" in Kingsley, Staffordshire.


Eliza (Elizabeth) Dawson

In the 1871 Census, "Eliza" (Brough) is listed as being about 39 years old (born about 1832), born in Longton, married and working as a "Potter Wheelturner".

In the 1891 Census, "Eliza" (Brough) is listed as being about 60 years old (born about 1831), born in Longton, married and working as a "Potter's wheelturner" while residing in the home of her daughter, Annie, and son-in-law, Henry Collins, in St. James, Longton, Staffordshire.


James Brough

In the 1871 Census, "James Brough" is listed as being 9 years old (born about 1862), born in Longton, and working as a "Potter Jiggerturner".


Thomas Rogers

Kelly's 1912 Directory lists a Thomas Rogers, living at 141 Buxton Road, Leek. (SOG ST/D1912.) Same reference also lists a Tom Rogers as a fried fish dealer at 15 Waterloo Street, Leek.
