The christening of Mary Lownds is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index (via the LDS Extraction Program).
The christening of John Parrott is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index.
Geographical Note: The travel distance from Newcastle Under Lyme--where John Parrott was christened, south to Trentham--where John Parrott was buried, is less than four miles.(3.88 miles).
Reference Note: It is interesting to note that Devan Nathan Brough (b.1914)--a great-grandson of Samuel Brough and Elizabeth Bott, performed much of the male "Relative/Proxy" LDS Temple work for the father and male siblings of John Parrott during the early 1960's.
The birth (estimated) and burial of Ellen (Parrott) is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index.
The birth and christening information for "Thomas Myatt" is listed the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, Trentham parish register: FHL Film # 873642, p.324), which states that his parents were "Thos. Myatt and Margt."
The parents of Thomas Myatt (b.1790) were Thomas Myatt and Margaret Brough. According to RBFO Genealogist, Marie B. Nielson, "There are double/multiple genealogical relationships between the Broughs and Myatts" of northern Staffordshire.
Note: The christening records of most of the children of Thomas and Jane Myatt can be found in the St. John Longton Lane End Parish, Film # 1471086--such as on pages 17, 65, 122, 177, 241, 300.
The christening of Ann Myatt is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index.
The christening of Thomas Myatt is listed in the parish record for Lane End, Longton, Staffordshire (FHL Film # 1471086), which states that "Thomas son of Thomas and Jane Myatt or Wright" was christened on 12 April 1812.
Birth and Christening record: Longton High St. Chapel in Longton Parish, FHL Film # 825393, p. 47.
The Birth Certificate of Richard states that he was born on 3 May 1846 on York Street in Lane End, Stoke on Trent, Stafffordshire, and only lists his mother: "Rosannah Myatt." (Richard Brough and Rosannah Myatt were married on 2 August 1846.) Birth Certificate #428 in possession of R. Clayton Brough, RBFO Research Committee.
The Parish Register of Longton, St. John, Staffordshire, FHL Film # 1471087, states the following about Richard's christening of 12 May 1846: "Richard son of Rosanna Myatt, Lane End, Potter."
In the 1851 Census, "Richd Miat" is listed as being about 6 years old (born about 1845), born in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, and residing as a "son" with his parents "Richard Brough" and "Susannah"--which was apparently a mistake by the census-taker for her correct given-name of Rosannah (Myatt)--on: Stone Road in Blurton, Trentham, Staffordshire.
In the 1861 Census, "Richard Brough" is listed as being about 15 years old (born about 1846), born in Longton, Staffordshire, working as a Brickmaker, and residing as a "son" with his parents Richard Brough and Rosanna on: 16 & 18 Russell Street, Longton, Staffordshire.
In the 1871 Census - Richard Brough has NOT been located: In July 2009, RBFO researchers have not been able to locate Richard Brough and Elizabeth in the 1871 Census--even though they carefully viewed all entries in the census for those individuals and families living on "Russell Street" in Longton and conducted extensive research in the census for northern Staffordshire. (However, there is another "Richard Myatt" listed in the 1871 Census who is residing on Church Street in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and this Richard Myatt was about 29 years old (born about 1842--but the age is difficult to read), born in Knightley, Staffordshire, working as a Railway Porter, and married to an "Eliza"--who was probably "Eliza Nunn" or "Eliza Munn" as the on-line FreeBMD lists a Richard Myatt who married an "Eliza Nunn" in October-December 1865 in Tamworth district, Staffordshire and the on-line Staffordshire BMD lists a Richard Myatt who married an "Eliza Munn" in 1865 at St. Editha, Tamworth, Staffordshire.)
In the 1881 Census, "Richard Brough" is listed as being about 35 years old (born about 1846), born in Longton, Staffordshire, a "Widower" and a Coal Miner, and residing with his son, Thomas Brough (age 16), at: 28 Lower Russell Street, in Longton, Staffordshire.
Research Note: In August 2009, James H. Brough of Alsager, Staffordshire, obtained a copy of a death certificate of a "Richard Myatt" who was a "Copper Smith of Hanley" and who died at the age of 43 (born about 1847) on 28 August 1890 in the Workhouse of Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire. However, this Richard Myatt is apparently the same Richard Myatt who is listed in the 1881 Census as being 34 years old (born about 1847), born in Bucknall, a "Coppersmith", married to a "Sarah", and having two young children (ages 7 and 3) who were born in Hanley. So this Richard Myatt is obviously not the "Richard Brough"--or Richard Myatt (Brough)--who was 35 years old (born about 1846), a "Widower" and a "Coal Miner" who was residing with his oldest son, "Thomas Brough", in Longton in the 1881 Census, and who married Elizabeth Bradburne in 1866.
Research Note: In September 2009, R. Clayton Brough of Utah obtained a copy of a death certificate of a "Richard Brough" who was "Formerly a Potter's dipper" and who died at the age of 72 (born about 1846) on 13 July 1918 from "heart failure due to old age and chronic bronchitis" at the "George and Dragon Hotel" in Rough Close, Stone Rural, Stone, Staffordshire.
The Parentage of Richard Myatt (Brough) based on new DNA Evidence, June 2009:
Richard Myatt (Brough) was born (3 May 1846) about three months prior to the marriage (on 2 August 1846) of Richard Brough (the son of Richard Brough, b.1786--whom the RBFO is named after) to Rosannah Myatt--but his biological father was not listed on his birth certificate. However, throughout his life, Richard Myatt (Brough) occasionally used the Brough surname--such as in the 1881 Census when he was 35 years old. In 2004, RBFO researchers stated (in the publication: "The Genealogy and History of the English and Australian Descendants of Richard Brough and Rosannah Myatt", 2004, p.22) that since Richard Myatt (Brough)'s given name was Richard--and because he occasionally used the Brough surname--that the biological father of Richard Myatt (Brough) was "apparently" Richard Brough who married Rosannah Myatt.
However, in June 2009, a direct descendant of Richard Myatt (Brough) took a Y-DNA test, which revealed that he was not of the same DNA Haplogroup as are the descendants of Richard Brough's other siblings (such as several male descendants of Thomas and Samuel Brough). Therefore, Richard Brough was probably the step-father of Richard Myatt (Brough)--who occasionally used the Brough surname. Nevertheless, throughout his life Richard Myatt (Brough) often identified his parents as Richard Brough and Rosannah Myatt, and he honored them as such by continually being affiliated with them and occasionally using the Brough surname. Therefore, even though Richard Myatt (Brough) was probably not a "blood" descendant of Richard Brough (who married Rosannah Myatt), he was a Brough descendant by "adoption" and "inheritance"--since Richard Brough was probably his step-father, and the descendants of Richard Myatt (Brough) have always been--and still are--considered part of the larger Brough family and members of the RBFO. In fact, relative to this and other similar circumstances, the RBFO has publicly stated the following: "Always remember that 'Family is family, whether it is by blood, adoption or inheritance.' If DNA testing does not support your genealogical assumptions, do not distance yourself from those who have supported and loved you during your life. Regardless of how you received or acquired your surname--whether it was by blood, adoption or inheritance--stay close to those who know and love you, and invest in strengthening family ties that connect you to those you call and know as 'family'."
In addition, even though Richard Brough is probably not the biological father of Richard Myatt (Brough), Rosannah Myatt's grandparents were Thomas Myatt (chr.1764) and Margaret Brough (chr.1772), and Margaret Brough was a "7th cousin" to Richard Brough, b.1786--whom the RBFO is named after. (The common male ancestor of Richard Brough and Margaret Brough is John Burgh of Middle Hulme, Leek, Staffordshire, who lived 1508-1557.) Therefore, the descendants of Richard Myatt (Brough) are probably Broughs by "adoption" and "inheritance" through their male Brough surname line, and Broughs by "blood" through their female Myatt ancestry.
The Birth Certificate of Elizabeth Bardburne states that she was born on 21 February 1846 in Jassup Square, Lane End, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, and that her mother was "Eliza Bradburne" of Lane End. No father is listed on the Birth Certificate. Birth Certificate #320 in possession of R. Clayton Brough, RBFO Research Committee.
In the 1851 Census, "Elizabeth Bradburn" is listed as being about 5 years old (born about 1846), born in Longton, Staffordshire, and residing as a "Lodger" with two adults identified as Thomas Wilshaw (58 years old) and Eliza Bradburn (also a "Lodger", 33 years old).
In the 1861 Census, "Elizth Wilshaw" is listed as being about 15 years old (born about 1846), born in Fenton, Staffordshire, and residing as a "Pauper" in the Spittals Workhouse in Penkhull, Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire.
Research Note: So far (July 2009), RBFO researchers have not located Elizabeth (Myatt) in the 1871 Census.
The marriage certificate of Richard Myatt (Brough) and Elizabeth Bradburn (FHL Film # 1471085, for Longton, St. James, Staffordshire), states that "Richard Myatt", age 20, married "Elizabeth Bradburn", age 20, on January 13, 1866, in the Parish Church of Longton, Staffordshire, England. It also identifies Richard's father as "Richard Myatt," and Elizabeth's father as "Thomas Wilshaw."
The Death Certificate of Elizabeth states that she died 27 November 1871 at Nicholl's Yard, High Street, Longton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, and that she was "25 years" old when she died and that she was the "wife of Richard Myatt, Collier." Also, "Ann Kelsall" of "Mount Pleasant, Longton" was "present" at Elizabeth's death. Death Certificate #45 is in possession of R. Clayton Brough, RBFO Research Committee.
Birth certificate shows Richard Myatt was born 26 July 1868 in "6 Heaths Passage" in Longton, Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, England to "Richard Myatt (a Miner)" and "Elizabeth Myatt formerly Bradburn". A copy of the birth certificate is in possession of R. Clayton Brough, RBFO Genealogist.
The Longton, St. James, Staffordshire, Parish Register christening of Richard Myatt reads: "9 August 1868, Richard son of Richard Myatt and Elizabeth, East passage, Miner." (FHL Film # 1471085)
Research Note: So far (July 2009), RBFO researchers have not located Richard Myatt (Brough) in the 1871 Census.
In the 1871 Census, John Kelsall is listed as being about 28 years old (born about 1843), born in Longton, married and working as a "Potter Handler", while residing as a "son-in-law" with his wife, Anne, in the home of Richard Brough and Rose (Rosannah Myatt), in Longton, Stoke-upon-Trent. (FHL Film # 836388, p.34).

In the 1851 Census, "Ann Miat" is listed as being about 8 years old (born about 1843), born in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, and residing as a "daughter" with her parents "Richard Brough" and "Susannah"--which was apparently a mistake by the census-taker for her correct given-name of Rosannah (Myatt), on: Stone Road in Blurton, Trentham, Staffordshire.
In the 1861 Census (taken on 1 April 1861), Ann Myatt is listed as "Amy Brough"--which was apparently a mistake by the census-take for the her correct name of Ann Myatt, and as being about 18 years old (born about 1843), born in Longton, Staffordshire, working as a Potter, and residing as a "daughter" with her parents Richard Brough and Rosanna on: 16 & 18 Russell Street, Longton, Staffordshire.
